Adapting transport systems for resilience

What do we really mean by resilience in transport systems and transport infrastructure? How will we keep things moving in an uncertain world? Beyond sustainable infrastructure, adaptive technologies and strategic planning how do we ensure our transport will be fit for purpose, particularly as we face up to the climate emergency? What really counts?

Project briefing: Heathrow Southern Railway
Heathrow Airport, the Department for Transport and other key stakeholders strongly support a new southern rail access to Heathrow, the UK’s principal airport hub and a critical national asset. Heathrow Southern Railway is a proposed 13km privately funded rail link that would connect the airport to the existing rail network south of Heathrow, transforming access for airline passengers and airport employees from across the South East, easing the overcrowded strategic road network and delivering significant environmental benefits. The opportunity also exists to provide new journey opportunities for non-airport passengers and improve the resilience of the South East’s rail network.
Mark Livock, Chief Executive, Heathrow Southern Railway

Project briefing - scaling the art of the possible
A supply chain collaboration led by Tarmac with Shell, Volvo, JCB, Benninghoven, Certas Energy and Zappshelter has delivered carbon savings of up to 80% on a road project through use of best available materials and plant. What are the lessons learnt and how can the approach be scaled and become business as usual.
Martin Riley, SVP Climate Performance, CRH
