Stephen Watkins
Co-chair of the Transport & Health Science Group
A rambler, railway enthusiast, trade unionist and qualified medical doctor, Stephen Watkins specialised in public health and was for 28 years the Director of Public Health for Stockport and the Lead DPH for Transport & Spatial Planning in Greater Manchester. He retired from paid practice in 2019 but continues to work voluntarily as a charity trustee and Co-chair (Policy) of the Transport and Health Science Group. He was the editor of Health on the Move, co-editor of Health on the Move 2 and co-editor of Health on the Move 3, and co-author of “Are Cars the New Tobacco?” He is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport, Vice-President of Doctors in UNITE, the UNITE representative on the BMA’s Public Health Committee and a former Vice-President of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
