The call for evidence of the Government’s Mass Transit Taskforce is now open, inviting views on how to tackle the barriers to the quick and efficient delivery of mass transit systems across the UK.

The Taskforce, which was established by the Department for Transport in May, will assess the economic, spatial and social benefits of integrated mass transit; identify the challenges that impede the development and delivery of mass transit systems; and make recommendations to central and local government on how best to overcome them.
For the purposes of the Taskforce, mass transit includes light rail, very light rail, tram, tram-train, metro-style systems, and bus rapid transit.
The Taskforce is Chaired by Bridget Rosewell CBE, and includes Jason Prince, Director of the Urban Transport Group (UTG); Richard de Cani, Chief Officer for Global Business and Markets at Arup; and David Milner, Managing Director of Create Streets. The Taskforce will be supported by an expert panel (due to be announced soon). UTG is providing the secretariat function.
Bridget Rosewell CBE said, “The Taskforce will produce clear recommendations, informed by evidence, analysis and expert advice, on how the benefits of mass transit can be appropriately realised for more people and places and how mass transit projects can be delivered with greater speed, efficiency and cost effectiveness whilst maintaining excellent standards for safety, accessibility and passenger experience.
“The call for evidence is an invitation for you — the transport industry — to shape a successful future for mass transit.”
The call for evidence closes on 31 August 2026.
