How Can Circular Economy Principles Be Applied to Transport Infrastructure?
Hosted by
Pascall+Watson

Exchange Room 6, 11.15-12.30, 3 March

his roundtable explores how circular economy principles can fundamentally transform the way we design, build, and maintain transport infrastructure. By embedding circular economy thinking across all supply chain stages. Designing for multiple lives and adaptation, minimising waste while maximising repurposing materials during construction, and extending asset life to keep materials at their highest value. The entire supply chain needs to work together to close the loop on infrastructure development.

The session examines how breaking down traditional silos between these stakeholders can unlock new opportunities to eliminate waste, extend the useful life of our assets, and extract continuous maximum value from every material.

Join the conversation on reimagining transport infrastructure for a regenerative future.

Unlocking rail freight and the multi-modal construction opportunity
Hosted by Tarmac

Exchange Room 5, 11.15-12.30, 3 March

Improved and integrated transport connections are at the heart of metro mayors’ ambitious plans for city regions. These major transport infrastructure projects must be delivered in the most sustainable ways to reduce impact on communities, retain economic value and reduce environmental impact.

Multi-modal logistics using rail freight and eHGVs to transport essential construction materials for last mile logistics are part of the sustainable, low carbon solution. Yet often not enough strategic focus is given to where materials are made and how they are they transported.

This Tarmac roundtable will bring together transport professionals from the public and private sectors together with clients and contractors to discuss how the transport priorities of government and city regions can set a new blueprint for exemplar multi-modal delivery.

Together we will discuss:

  • The potential for multi-modal logistics using rail freight – the opportunities and threats with rail reform

  • The opportunity for projects to electrify supply chains with eHGVs for last mile logistics and the benefits

  • The exemplar projects and their key learnings

  • The regional and national government policy support which is required to help drive multi -modal construction logistics

Rail Reform: Lost in Translation
Hosted by RSK

 ➜ Exchange Room 2, 13.30-14.45, 3 March

A roundtable discussion, chaired by Huw Merriman (Chair of Liverpool-Manchester Railways Partnership Board and former Rail Minister), exploring the future vision for Britain’s railways and the space that often opens between government plans and public understanding. As the industry transitions from a private‑sector‑led approach to public-owned railway, the session asks a critical question: have we brought passengers and the public with us on this journey and, if not, how do we reconnect and re‑engage?

Bringing together senior voices from across the rail sector, the conversation will examine whether the vision for rail reform is being clearly articulated, consistently understood, and meaningfully felt beyond the industry itself. Anchored in the context of the Integrated Rail Plan, the discussion will explore how strategy, language, and delivery translate into public trust, confidence and enthusiasm for the railways of the future and how any gaps in translation can become opportunities to build a stronger, more compelling narrative that reflects rail’s role within a truly integrated transport network
