Jan Chaudhry van der Velde
Strategic Projects Director, Transport for Wales
Jan Chaudhry van der Velde joined Transport for Wales (TfW) in April 2021 as Managing Director of Rail, leading the organisation’s rail operations through a period of transformation and delivery. During his four-year tenure, he oversaw performance improvement, service development and the integration of infrastructure and operations under public ownership. In April 2025, he became TfW’s Strategic Projects Director and Senior Responsible Officer for the Network North Wales programme, driving forward plans to enhance connectivity, capacity and economic growth across the region. Jan brings more than three decades of UK rail leadership experience across both public and private sector operators.
