ScotCharge consortium launches to accelerate HGV electrification in Scotland
A new industry consortium, ScotCharge, has been launched to drive the transition to zero-emission heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) across Scotland. Formed by VEV, Dynamon, and Fleete, the initiative is supported by £2m from Transport Scotland’s HGV Market Readiness Fund.

The consortium will develop a comprehensive roadmap for decarbonising Scotland’s HGV sector, which includes approximately 36,500 vehicles responsible for around 12% of Scotland’s transport emissions. ScotCharge brings together fleet operators, infrastructure providers, and energy specialists to design scalable solutions for fleet electrification, depot charging, and shared charging hubs.
Amber Jamieson, HGV Decarbonisation Team Leader at Transport Scotland, said, "The Market Readiness Fund enables operators, manufacturers, financiers, and charge-point providers to work together on projects that drive investment in HGV decarbonisation. Initiatives like ScotCharge will help accelerate the transition to zero-emission fleets across Scotland."
The ScotCharge consortium plans to deliver an initial business case by December 2025, followed by a full report in March 2026. The project will provide detailed recommendations for fleet operators of all sizes, including strategies for route planning, energy demand management, and depot electrification.
ScotCharge is one of eight consortia funded under Transport Scotland’s HGV Market Readiness Fund. The fund supports both collaborative business cases and SME fleet analysis, providing smaller hauliers with expert guidance to explore electrification pathways.
Marcelo Soares, VP of Customer and Partnerships at VEV, said, "ScotCharge will help fleets of all sizes plan a realistic, scalable transition to electric HGVs, supporting both environmental goals and operational efficiency.
The consortium’s work will help identify where public and private investment can be leveraged to accelerate HGV decarbonisation, providing a foundation for future large-scale infrastructure and fleet electrification projects across Scotland.”
