Andrew has been at the leading edge of Sustainable Intelligent Transport development for over 30 years. He started his career in the rail sector, helping establish Community Rail initiatives & Policy. He progressed to be an initial founder and regional Chairman of Traveline for SW England, before joining First Group’s UK Bus Division, leading on Smart Ticketing and ITSO.

Andrew left First to join the Department for Transport working in Local Transport Planning for the South West England as well as advising the UK Buses & Taxis Division. From his commitment to effective partnerships between the Public and Private sectors, Andrew later established Smart Applications Management (SAM) in 2010, which is the UKs largest Membership Owned smart ticketing managed service provider supporting over 3 million card holders. SAM is also the owner of the National Mobilities Procurement Hub, the UK’s largest specialist procurement portal for the public sector for all things sustainable transport.

In 2023 Andrew was appointed by the Scottish Government to Chair their National Smart Ticketing Advisory Board - NSTAB in providing advice and support to the Government in the development of a single multi-token multi-modal platform for ticketing.

Andrew combines these roles with his position as Associate Professor of Transport Geography at the University of Plymouth specialising in research and teaching sustainable mobility & planning.
