David Coles
Chief Engineer, Department for Transport
David is Chief Engineer at the UK Department for Transport, a role he has held since 2020 after joining the Department’s High Speed 2 Rail Group in 2016. In his current position he leads the team advising on technical and operational aspects of major infrastructure projects, focusing on cost, value, risk and innovation in transport delivery. He is a chartered civil engineer, a fellow and director of professional institutions, and former chairman of the Railway Civil Engineers’ Association.
